[0002] Diffusion composition of volatile substances
[0003]
[0004] The present invention relates to a composition for diffusing volatile substances, in particular for use as an air freshener or insecticide.
[0005]
[0006] Background of the Invention
[0007]
[0008] There are different products on the market containing wax-based formulations of volatile substances impregnated for use in a heated device, without the need to use combustion to release the volatile substances. In these containers, the wax melts and releases volatile substances into the environment.
[0009]
[0010] Current solutions are limited in their properties as a product of diffusion of volatile substances due to the limitations of wax.
[0011]
[0012] The wax is characterized by having a relatively low formulation weight absorption limit depending on the wax used. For example, wax of paraffinic origin only does not support more than 3% by weight and other waxes are not recommended to put much more than 6% by weight.
[0013]
[0014] When trying to increase the fragrance ratio above this threshold, the wax begins to expel the fragrance creating an effect where the product appears to "sweat". Due to this, the ratio of product size to amount of fragrance remains limited.
[0015]
[0016] Another characteristic of this type of product is that once the wax is heated and becomes liquid, it is not capable of retaining volatile substances for a long time, making this type of product very strongly perceived at the beginning with a high degree evaporation of fragrance, but after a few hours there is no fragrance.
[0017]
[0018] Therefore, an objective of the present invention is to provide a volatile substances diffusion composition that allows increasing the percentage of volatile substances, that is, the percentage of fragrance and lengthening the release time.
[0019] Description of the Invention
[0020]
[0021] With the composition of the invention, the aforementioned drawbacks can be solved, presenting other advantages that will be described below.
[0022]
[0023] The volatile substances diffusion composition according to the present invention comprises wax, and is characterized in that it also comprises solid material that includes volatile substances.
[0024]
[0025] Advantageously, said solid material is in the form of particles, for example, ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA).
[0026]
[0027] Furthermore, in the volatile substances diffusion composition according to the present invention, said solid material has a higher absorption capacity for volatile substances than the absorption capacity for volatile substances in wax.
[0028]
[0029] For example, the absorption capacity of volatile substances in the solid material is double that of the absorption capacity of volatile substances in wax.
[0030]
[0031] According to a preferred embodiment, the volatile substances diffusion composition of the present invention comprises a weight percentage of wax between 60 and 70%, for example, 65%, and a weight percentage of solid material between 40 and 30%, for example 35%.
[0032]
[0033] If desired, the wax may also comprise volatile substances, although it is also possible that the volatile substances are only in the solid material, in which case the volatile substances in the solid material may be different from the volatile substances in the wax.
[0034]
[0035] The solid material used has the ability to absorb more formula than wax (> 6%). When melted, the wax becomes liquid, but the material remains solid.
[0036]
[0037] The main advantages of the composition according to the present invention are as follows:
[0038] - The initial volume of the conventional product is maintained with only wax, but the percentage of fragrance is increased, depending on the percentage amount of wax or impregnated solid particles in the final composition.
[0039]
[0040] - By having a greater amount of volatile substances, the user perceives a greater intensity of fragrance, and faster.
[0041]
[0042] - Solid particles retain volatile substances inside them longer when the composition is heated. This allows to extend the life of the product compared to one that only contains wax.
[0043]
[0044] Brief description of the drawings
[0045]
[0046] For a better understanding of what has been stated, some drawings are attached in which, schematically and only by way of non-limiting example, a practical case of embodiment is represented.
[0047]
[0048] Fig. 1 is a graph showing the percentage of weight loss over time of a composition according to the present invention and a comparison composition.
[0049]
[0050] Description of a preferred embodiment
[0051]
[0052] The volatile substances diffusion composition according to the present invention comprises wax and solid material, for example solid particles.
[0053]
[0054] Said solid material is preferably ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) and has an ability to absorb more volatile substances than wax, such as, for example, twice the absorption capacity of volatile substances than wax, considering the same volume.
[0055]
[0056] In the composition according to the present invention the volatile substances can be contained in the wax and in the solid material, or only in the solid material, as desired. In the event that the wax and the solid material include volatile substances, they can be different from each other to provide different characteristics.
[0057]
[0058] Next, an example of the composition according to the present is described. invention and a comparative example of a conventional composition.
[0059]
[0060] In this example, the composition was an 11 g cube of wax, containing 5% volatile substances, i.e. 0.55 g.
[0061]
[0062] It was evaluated how much solid material (EVA) would be needed to double the amount of volatile substances in the same volume as the original cube. After an initial estimation and considering that said solid material is capable of absorbing 20% of volatile substances, a mixture is obtained (considering that both materials had a similar density) where having approximately 65% by weight it was impregnated wax with volatile substances and 35% by weight was EVA impregnated with volatile substances, obtaining twice the amount of volatile substances for the same occupied volume.
[0063]
[0064] A comparison composition was also made with wax only impregnated with volatile substances and a mixture with the percentages mentioned above. A heated device was used and a comparison was made between the two products. After 24 hours, the results are shown in the graph in figure 1 and in the attached table.
[0065]
[0066]
[0067]
[0068]
[0069] From said graph and table, the following conclusions can be drawn:
[0070]
[0071] - For the same evaporation time, the amount of evaporated volatile substances is much greater and, therefore, the perception by the user is also greater.
[0072]
[0073] - After 5 hours, the amount of evaporated volatile substances in the wax alone is practically flat, on the other hand, in the example according to the present invention, the amount evaporated continues to increase beyond 8 hours, helping the solid material to stop evaporation.
[0074] - As observed in the final evaporation, not only are there more volatile substances at the beginning, but the composition according to the invention is capable of evaporating the volatile substances by 74% more after 24 hours.
[0075]
[0076] Although reference has been made to a specific embodiment of the invention, it is evident to a person skilled in the art that the described composition is susceptible of numerous variations and modifications, and that all the mentioned details can be replaced by other technically equivalent ones, without departing from the scope of protection defined by the appended claims.
